What to expect

During this appointment, one of our qualified audiologists will perform a comprehensive diagnostic assessment of your hearing.

This involves a case history to discuss your concerns, otoscopy (examination of your ears), tympanometry (middle ear function test), and a hearing test.

Depending on age, testing may include:

  • Visual Reinforcement Audiology (VRA)
  • Play Audiometry
  • Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA)

There is a Medicare rebate available for audiology appointments with a valid GP referral or team care arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

A diagnostic hearing assessment is a comprehensive 30-minute appointment conducted by a qualified audiologist. This involves a case history to discuss your concerns, otoscopy (examination of your ears), tympanometry (middle ear function test), and a hearing test. Depending on age, the hearing test involves testing all frequencies from 250 to 8000 Hz, it is a in-depth evaluation to determine the type, cause, and severity of a hearing loss. With a valid GP referral or team care arrangement a Medicare rebate is available.

A screening or hearing check is a very short hearing test to obtain an indication of the health of your hearing and to determine whether you need a more comprehensive clinical hearing assessment. A screening will only typically test frequencies between 500 to 4000 Hz. This type of check is usually at no cost to you and takes up to 5 minutes.

No, you can book directly with our audiologist without a referral however a Medicare rebate is only available to a patient with a current referral.

  • Speech and language developmental delay, frustration as others don’t understand them

  • Sits close to the television or has the volume up louder than usual
  • Talks loudly
  • Decline in educational performance
  • Needing to be called several times before responding
  • Uncoordinated or clumsy (more than usual)
  • Difficulty following conversations in the car or has the volume of the car radio up louder than usual
  • Difficulty following speech in the presence of background noise, having to use context to guess what is being said
